Four spots for WTA Championships Istanbul 2013 still up for grabs

The remaining four slots for the prestigious WTA Championships Istanbul is still up for grabs with a number of prestigious WTA events still scheduled to be staged. The world’s top four – Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova and Agnieszka Radwanska have secured their places for the year-end event.

Despite having qualified for the year-end event, Maria Sharapova remains uncertain if she can compete due to her right shoulder bursitis. She did state in recent interviews that she intends to compete in Istanbul. Recently retired French tennis player Marion Bartoli is still eligible to compete in the elite event should she qualify because she hasn’t requested WTA to take down her name from the rankings list. She currently stands in eighth place.

Here’s the current standings for WTA Championships Istanbul comprising of ranking points accumulated for the 2013 season only.
