Australian tennis star Lleyton Hewitt has committed to participate at the AAMI Kooyong Classic exhibition tournament in January 2014. The 2-time Grand Slam champion usually makes this as his warm-up event prior to the Australian Open tournament.
Hewitt is the defending champion at this eight-man exhibition event which is now owned by IMG, a global sports and media giant.
IMG also announced that US Open 2013 semifinalists Richard Gasquet of France and Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland will become part of the event as well.
IMG Director of Tennis and AAMI Kooyong Classic Tournament Director Brian Cooney said that the event will still have the same round-robin format but this might change in the future.
“We’ve already opened talks with Tennis Australia, but mid-September is too late to be contemplating changes for next January,” he said.
