Max Mirnyi clinches 10th Grand Slam title, wins US Open 2013 Mixed Doubles

Belarussian Max Mirnyi won his 10th career Grand Slam title on Friday by sealing the US Open 2013 Mixed Doubles title with partner Andrea Hlavackova of Czech Republic. The duo reversed a 1-4 deficit in the first set enroute to a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Abigail Spears and Santiago Gonzalez.

“Max was unbelievable today,” Hlavackova said. “He was covering 80 percent of the court, so it was easy for me to come up with some magic returns.”

The duo received $150,000 which they will split.

“After playing the first time at Wimbledon, right off the bat I felt much easier on the court with Andrea than probably most of my previous mixed doubles matches… She looks for ways to win. She’s very positive. Even though we lost first round at Wimbledon, I was eager to play again. When she texted me – Should we try again? – It was very easy to say yes,” Mirnyi said.

Mirnyi now won six men’s Grand Slam doubles titles and four mixed Grand Slam doubles titles.
