Novak Djokovic races past Granollers to reach US Open quarterfinals

World number one Novak Djokovic did not experience much resistance during his fourth round match against Spain’s Marcel Granollers at the US Open Tennis Championships. The Serbian raced past his opponent 6-3, 6-0, 6-0 to reach the quarterfinals.

Granollers, ranked 43 in the world, couldn’t do much damage against his higher-ranked opponent. He will still be leaving the US Open with heads held high since it is his first fourth round outing at a hardcourt Grand Slam tournament.

This is Djokovic’s 18th consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance. He will next face Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny after the latter eliminated 2001 US Open champion Lleyton Hewitt.

Djokovic is the 2011 champion in New York and finished runner-up thrice in 2007, 2010 and 2012.
