Novak Djokovic reaches US Open 2013 men’s final, beats heartbroken Stanislas Wawrinka in semis

World number one Novak Djokovic barely escaped the spirited challenge of ninth-seed Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland in the semifinals of the US Open 2013 Tennis Championships. The Serbian won the match 2-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the Men’s Singles final which will take place on Monday, September 9. He awaits the winner of the Rafael Nadal vs Richard Gasquet semifinal match which will take place later today.

As for Wawrinka, this is yet another heartbreaking loss similar to their recent encounter at the Australian Open 2013 tournament where he also lost to a tough five-setter against Djokovic. Despite the loss, the Swiss will bask to the fact that he’s reached a Grand Slam singles semifinal for the first time in his career.
