Radwanska ousted by Kerber in Tokyo quarterfinals

World number four Agnieszka Radwanska was ousted in the quarterfinals of the Toray Pan Pacific Open on Thursday by Germany’s Angelique Kerber. It was a rematch of their semifinal encounter last year at this tournament but this time with a different result. A year ago, Radwanska eliminated Kerber in the semifinals.

“It’s never easy to play against a very good friend, but I was just trying to focus on me,” Kerber said. “I think I concentrated really well from the first point to the last one. I think my serve worked very well tonight and I think that was the key to the match. I’m actually feeling very good here in Tokyo.

“My game plan worked very well and I’m just happy to be in the semifinals here for the second time.”

Kerber will next face former top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark after the latter defeated Lucie Safarova of Czech Republic 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
