Roger Federer’s ranking to improve to number six after US Open 2013

The world ranking of Swiss tennis superstar Roger Federer will improve after the conclusion of the US Open 2013 tournament on Monday.

Federer is currently ranked 7th in the world. However, he will move one place up to number six once the rankings are updated on Monday. This is due to current world no. 6 Juan Martin Del Potro’s failure to defend his quarterfinal points from this tournament last year. The Argentine lost in the second round of this tournament while Federer lost in the fourth round. The Swiss maestro will be losing ranking points as well but not as much as Del Potro.

As for his ranking in Switzerland, Federer will still remain number one. His compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka reached the quarterfinals of the US Open and could still potentially do better as he faces Andy Murray for a spot in the semifinals as of this writing. Even if Wawrinka wins the US Open, he won’t still be able to overtake Federer’s rankings next week.
