Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny squeaks past Hewitt in five-set thriller to reach US Open quarterfinals

Mikhail Youzhny of Russia was at the brink of defeat on Tuesday night at the US Open 2013 fourth round against Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt but bounced back just in time to outlast the 2001 US Open champion 6-3, 3-6, 6-7(3), 6-4, 7-5.

Youzhny has had impressive runs in New York in the past, having reached the semifinals in 2006 and 2010. He will attempt to make another trip to the final four for the third time by facing Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the quarterfinals slated on Thursday.
