Serena Williams thinks she’s “not the greatest” player yet

While most people would tag her these days as the “greatest female tennis player” in the planet, world number one Serena Williams doesn’t think that she is at this point.

Williams, who just celebrated her 32nd birthday on Thursday, got another great news as she was told that she’s secured the year-end world number one ranking for the third time in her career.

Williams has now amassed a total of 55 titles with 17 of those coming from Grand Slam tournaments. She addressed the reports in Beijing ahead of the China Open that she’s probably part of the “top five” all time.

“I’m not the greatest player. I’m still playing and I’m still trying to reach records. And people like Steffi and Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova and Margaret Court, they are the greatest,” she said.

“Maybe top five, but definitely not number one. For me it’s an honour to even be mentioned amongst those amazing ladies.”

Williams has already won nine titles this season so far and is the top seed of the Premier-level China Open which begins on Monday, September 30.
