Top-ranked and defending champion Serena Williams is fresh from a double bagel quarterfinal victory over Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain and is expected to be on devastatingly good form as she faces China’s number one Li Na. Li Na, ranked sixth in the world, is through to her first semifinal at the US Open. She’s expected to return to the world’s top five on Monday as current number five Sara Errani was unable to defend the semifinal points she amassed at last year’s tournament.
Williams has an 8-1 head to head series lead over Li Na with their most recent meeting coming from the Cincinnati Open two weeks ago with Williams prevailing 7-5, 7-5 in the semifinals.
