America’s top two female tennis stars will face off in the fourth round of the US Open 2013 Tennis Championships, igniting interest once more of what could be a blockbuster match.
World number one Serena Williams stormed to the fourth round with a straight sets victory over Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-3, 6-1 on Friday. Earlier in the day, another American Sloane Stephens earned a spot in the fourth round after beating compatriot Jamie Hampton.
Stephens, seeded 15th in New York, made headlines earlier this year at the Australian Open after she defeated injury-laden Serena Williams in the quarterfinals. The young American is looking forward to another match-up with Williams.
“I think it will be a great match, obviously,” she said. “We will probably play on Ashe, and it’s something I think everyone is looking forward to.
“As I always say, I think it will be epic. I’m really looking forward to it.”
