Stanislas Wawrinka fails to overtake Federer in Race to London standings

Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka won’t be able to overtake compatriot Roger Federer in the ATP World Tour Finals Race to London standings after crashing out of the Malaysian Open semifinals this week.

Wawrinka trails Federer by just 130 points in current standings and would need to at least reach the final of the Malaysian Open tournament to get past his friend. However, Wawrinka is almost certain to overtake Federer at the China Open by reaching at least the second round of the ATP 500 hardcourt tournament in Beijing.

“It’s every player’s dream to play [in London], it’s something big and amazing, but it’s better for me to take care of what is happening right now,” Wawrinka said. “If I want to be there, I will need to play well and win matches, so as long as I don’t think too much, I’m sure I have a chance to be there.”
