Stanislas Wawrinka’s ranking up to world number nine after Gasquet fails to defend Thailand Open title

Swiss tennis player Stanislas Wawrinka continues his rise in the world rankings and threatens to dislodge his good friend Roger Federer as the top player from Switzerland.

As of the September 30, 2013 ATP World Tour Rankings, Wawrinka rises from number ten to number nine with 3,150 ranking points. Erstwhile number nine Richard Gasquet of France drops to number ten after failing to defend the Thailand Open title.

With Roger Federer scheduled to make a return at the Shanghai Rolex Masters next week, Wawrinka still has a chance to increase his ranking points and narrow down the lead as he participates at this week’s China Open in Beijing. China Open is an ATP 500 hardcourt tournament.
