Stepanek, Paes step up to win US Open 2013 Men’s Doubles title

Fourth-seeded Radek Stepanek of Czech Republic and Leander Paes of India won the US Open 2013 Men’s doubles title with a 6-1, 6-3 over second-seeded Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares in one hour and 12 minutes.

“This one really means a lot to me, because through this year we both had to handle a lot of adversity,” said Paes.

“I never lost the belief that I could come back and [Leander] was always in my corner, waiting for me,” said Stepanek.

The duo reached the final at the US Open last year but lost to top-ranked Mike and Bob Bryan. The team went on to avenge that defeat by eliminating the brothers in this year’s tournament.

Following their victory, the duo is now aiming to make it to the ATP World Tour Finals in London.

“That’s the trophy which is missing in Leander’s showcase.  That’s what I’m very focused on, that’s what I would like to deliver,” said Stepanek.
