It’s official, Tokyo has been chosen by the International Olympic Committee to stage the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
The decision was announced following the voting that took place on Saturday in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The committee narrowed down their finalists to three contenders – Tokyo, Madrid and Istanbul.
It was reported that Tokyo and Istanbul advanced to the final runoff vote with the former getting the most number of votes.
Representatives from Tokyo were able to successfully portray the Asian city as the best city to host the most prestigious sporting event. Tokyo has hosted the Olympic Games in 1964 which was very successful.
