World number two Victoria Azarenka of Belarus secured the top seeding at the Toray Pan Pacific Open 2013, a WTA Premier event that takes place in Tokyo, Japan from September 23 to 29. This development was made known after world number one Serena Williams withdrew her participation to the event citing fatigue as the reason.
Aside from Williams, world number three Maria Sharapova has pulled out of the event due to right shoulder bursitis. The tournament second seed will now be Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, currently ranked number four in the world.
Seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams is participating at the Toray Pan Pacific Open and could meet Azarenka in the second round.
