World number two Victoria Azarenka has been quoted as saying that top-ranked Serena Williams is the greatest player of all time ahead of their upcoming US Open Women’s Singles title match on Saturday, September 8.
The Belarussian is facing the American for a replay of their US Open final match a year ago. Azarenka was serving for the match that time but was broken and that paved the way for Williams to win the title.
“She’s an amazing player. She’s the greatest of all time,” Azarenka said in an interview with BBC Sport.
“It’s an amazing opportunity, something that every tennis player dreams of, to be in the final of the US Open and play against the best player in the world. It’s something I’m so excited about. I can’t wait to go out and play.”
Azarenka will remain world number two by reaching the final. Both Williams and Azarenka have won Grand Slam titles this year with Azarenka winning the Australian Open and Williams clinching the Roland Garros title.
