Zhang Shuai became the first Chinese player to win a WTA title after she won the Guangzhou Open on Saturday. The wildcard entrant defeated Vania King of United States 7-6, 6-1 to secure her first career WTA title. King also had a tough run at this tournament, starting from qualifying rounds.
Zhang reached the semifinals at this event in 2010 and now with the title, she joins her fellow countrywomen Li Na, Zheng Jie, Yan Zi and Sun Tiantian as WTA titlists.
