Caroline Wozniacki raised concerns about Kerber’s Linz wildcard grant

Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki said that she wrote to WTA President Stacey Allaster raising her complaint about the handing of the wildcard to Angelique Kerber at the recently concluded Generali Ladies Linz tournament which led to the latter’s securing of the final berth for the upcoming WTA Championships in Istanbul.

For those who have followed the developments prior to the start of the Linz tournament, Kerber was handed a last-minute wildcard at the event. Wozniacki was also in the running for a spot for the WTA Championships but missed out for the second straight year after Kerber reached the quarterfinals in the event to assure a place in the elite event.

Wozniacki will likely be part of the WTA Championships as one of the two alternates.

“It is very strange what has happened in Linz. I do not understand that you can suddenly change draw and allocation of wildcards that way. I wrote to Stacey but I have not got a proper answer. Just something that you can give wildcards to anyone,” Wozniacki said in this week’s Luxembourg Open.
