David Nalbandian shares winning year-end 2005 Masters Cup as favorite moment

Former world number three David Nalbandian said that winning the season-ending Masters Cup title in 2005 was his favorite moment in his career. The Argentine has announced his retirement from professional tennis a few weeks ago citing nagging injuries as the culprit.

“I think I will miss my colleagues, also playing in the tournaments, the Davis Cup in particular. From now on I will be watching the matches from a distance, it won’t be easy. I am still not sure what my role will be, but I will certainly continue to work in tennis in some way.”

“I think the final of the 2005 Masters Cup was the most important victory of my career. I beat Roger Federer in five sets, I will never forget that win. It really is one of the unturned stones of tennis for me. My dream was always to win the Davis Cup, let’s hope we do it soon. I take so many beautiful things away from tennis, friends, experiences, I visited so many countries. My favourite memory is, without a doubt, the final of the 2005 Masters Cup.”
