Jelena Jankovic aims for top three return by 2014 season

Former world number one Jelena Jankovic of Serbia is aiming for a return in the world’s top three by 2014 season and she’s aiming to jumpstart the campaign by posting strong results at the WTA Championships 2013 in Istanbul, Turkey in which she qualified.

The Serb started the 2013 season outside of the world’s top 20 but worked her way up by posting strong results especially during the second half of the season. Jankovic recently reached the final of the Premier Mandatory China Open where she lost to champion Serena Williams.

“I want to reach the Top 5 next year, then the Top 3 again. Now I’ve made it to Istanbul, where it is the very best players competing, so I will try to produce my best tennis and go as far as I can.”

“I think this year has been great for me as far as coming back and making that step forward. Reaching the Championships is a great achievement for me. In January, I thought it wasn’t even my goal as I didn’t think I could make it,” she added.
