Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to announce identity of new coach soon

World number eight Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will soon reveal the identity of his new coach, citing that the deal is almost sealed.

“I’m looking for a coach and I’m getting close to one,” he said.

The Frenchman was coached previously by Roger Rasheed. The latter is now the coach of Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.

Tsonga missed almost three months of tournaments due to knee injury but has posted promising results in the past few weeks. He reached the quarterfinals of last week’s Shanghai Masters where he lost to eventual champion Novak Djokovic.

“The knee is not 100 percent but I have to play on it, just to work the muscles. Doctors told me I can’t hurt it by playing. If I want to make it to London, I have to get out on court.”

Tsonga is currently ninth in the ATP Race to London Standings. With Wimbledon champion and world number four Andy Murray pulling out of the year-end event, the Frenchman now stands in eighth. He’s competing at the ATP 250 Erste Bank Open this week with the hopes of gaining more ranking points to secure his place in the elite season-ending event.
