Juan Martin Del Potro qualifies for ATP World Tour Finals – London

World number five Juan Martin Del Potro has officially qualified for the ATP World Tour Finals 2013 in London after reaching the final of the Shanghai Masters. The Argentine defeated Rafael Nadal in the semifinals at the Qizhong Stadium on Saturday. Del Potro is aiming to move a step further from his runner-up finish at this season finale in 2009. The ATP World Tour Finals takes place from November 4 to 11 at The O2 in London.

“I’m so, so happy to be back in London for the [Barclays ATP World Tour] Finals,” said del Potro. “Only eight players have the chance to be there and I’m one of them.

The most important thing is the way I qualified. I’ve been playing really well. I’m so glad to show good tennis and I’m looking forward to closing a good year in London.”

Del Potro joins Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and David Ferrer in the year-end event. Wimbledon champion Andy Murray has qualified but had to pull out due to ongoing rehabilitation from a recent back surgery.

“Juan Martin is such a great player to watch and we’re delighted he’s qualified for the 2013 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals,” said Tournament Director Andre Silva. “He has become a fan favourite wherever he plays on the ATP World Tour, especially in London. We welcome his return to our season-ending event for a second consecutive year.”
