Novak Djokovic motivated to end the season with best results

Though he has already relinquished the world number one ranking to rival Rafael Nadal two weekends ago, Serbian Novak Djokovic said that he’s motivated as ever to play at his best to finish the 2013 season on a high note.

Djokovic successfully defended the China Open and Shanghai Masters titles to post a 20-0 win-loss record in Chinese soil since last year. Despite the wins, the-now world number two said that the season is not yet over.

“Well, I’m still in this year. It hasn’t finished,” he said following his tough three-set victory over Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina in Shanghai on Sunday.

“I really will try to do my best till the end of the season, then I’m going to start thinking about what my goals are for next year,” he said.

“I put myself in a better position right now with back-to-back wins,” Djokovic said. “But the fact that if I would win, I would put myself in a better position, did not affect my motivation. My motivation is there always, especially when I’m playing finals of such a big event. I wanted this title as much as my opponent. That’s what’s going to stay forever.”

Djokovic won the Australian Open title this year, reached the Roland Garros semifinals, Wimbledon and US Open finals.

He’s aiming for a title win at the Paris Masters later this month before going to London to attempt defending the ATP World Tour Finals title.
