Petra Kvitova, Sara Errani, Jelena Jankovic qualify for WTA Championships 2013 Istanbul

Three additional players have been confirmed to have qualified for the prestigious WTA Championships 2013 that will take place in Istanbul, Turkey from October 22 to 27 or just about two weeks away.

Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic, Sara Errani of Italy and Jelena Jankovic have all qualified for this elite eight-woman event. Since world number three Maria Sharapova has officially withdrawn from this tournament, there’s still one available spot left for WTA Championships.

The top eight singles players and top four doubles teams will compete in Istanbul for the lion’s share of the record-setting $6 million in prize money. The four spots for the doubles event have been filled up.

“As we prepare for the third and final set of the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships in Istanbul, I know having Jelena, Petra and Sara in our elite field will provide the passionate fans in Turkey with exciting and inspirational matches,” WTA Chairman & CEO Stacey Allaster said.

“I am so happy to qualify for the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships again this year,” Kvitova said. “To be among the best players in the world means a lot, especially after a tough start to this year. I’m so excited to return to Istanbul for the final year of the Champs there and looking forward to playing in front of the Turkish fans. I hope to continue my recent good form and play my best tennis there.”

The eighth and final spot for the singles event is still up for grabs with Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki still in the running to secure the final spot.
