Plans to renovate, expand Roland Garros will proceed

The French Tennis Federation welcomed the decision by the Administrative Court of Paris to approve the renovation and expansion of the venue of the Roland Garros [French Open] tournament.

In March this year, the plans to renovate the venue were postponed after a tribunal agreed with the local residents who filed complaints that pushing through with the development could be harmful for the environment – specifically the botanical greenhouse located near the venue. However, the Administrative Court of Paris overturned the earlier decision.

The completion of the expansion of Roland Garros stadium is expected by 2017. Some of the major expansions include placing of the retractable roof over the Centre Court.
