Roger Federer arrives in Shanghai in time for the ATP 1000 Masters event

World number six Roger Federer has reportedly arrived in China on Wednesday which will give him enough time to warm up for the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2013 tournament which begins on Monday. This will be Federer’s first tournament since his disappointing fourth round loss at the US Open to Tommy Robredo.

Though he’s ranked sixth in the world, Federer is currently in 7th place in the Race to ATP World Tour Finals in London and would need to accumulate enough points to secure a berth in the elite eight-man event. His chances of qualifying to this year-end event that he’s won six times are great since world number three Andy Murray would almost certainly miss the event due to having had a back surgery recently.

Federer reached the semifinals of the Shanghai Masters a year ago. His best finish was a runner-up appearance in 2010. He was greeted at the airport by Tournament Director Michael Luevano, the international media and fans.

Federer will also be competing in the doubles event with China’s top-ranked player Zhang Ze.
