Roger Federer loses to Monfils at Shanghai Masters 2013

World number seven Roger Federer suffered yet another setback in his bid to qualify for the year-end ATP World Tour Finals after he lost his third round match at the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2013 to Frenchman Gael Monfils. Monfils won in 2 hours and 8 minutes with the score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.

The match statistics showed Monfils winning 108 out of 206 points played and the Frenchman posted 15 aces versus Federer’s 3. The Swiss Maestro had a chance to break back while down 2-4 in the final set but Monfils showed resilience and saved the break with an ace.

Federer will lose significant ranking points as he reached the semifinals a year ago but he still has a running chance to qualify for London as he’s slated to play in Basel and Paris. He’s a six time champion at the ATP World Tour Finals.
