Serena Williams responds to Steffi Graf’s comments

World number one Serena Williams shared her thoughts on the comments given by tennis legend Steffi Graf recently wherein the latter stated that Williams could go on to break Margaret Court‘s all-time record of 24 Grand Slam singles title. Williams, 32, currently has 17 Grand Slam singles titles. Her most recent Slam victory was at the US Open 2013 where she defeated Victoria Azarenka of Belarus.

“I’ve never heard Steffi make a comment really, so that is extremely moving and shocking and exciting,” Williams told the press in Beijing. “She was someone I looked up to tremendously.

“However, I do think there is a lot of competition out there. I think there are so many young girls that have the desire to dethrone me and be No. 1 and win Grand Slams as well. So I still take it one day at a time. I can only do my best. Believe me, I will try,” she added.
