Serena Williams, Sara Errani & Roberta Vinci named year-end WTA number ones

The year-end WTA number one players for both singles and doubles have been recognized at the WTA Championships last week. The trophies were given to Serena Williams and doubles team of Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani for being the year-end number one in singles and doubles respectively.

Dubai Duty Free Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications Salah Tahlak presented the trophies to the players on Friday.

“Serena, Sara and Roberta have had outstanding seasons,” Stacey Allaster, Chairman & CEO of the WTA, said. “They are truly inspirational women whose hard work and dedication has taken them to the very top of the game, and their feats continue to motivate many young athletes around the world.”

“Dubai Duty Free congratulates Serena, Sara and Roberta on reaching the pinnacle of the sport in singles and doubles,” Tahlak said. “We are delighted to present these players with their Year-End World No.1 trophies, which symbolize outstanding results in 2013. We are a proud partner of the WTA and look forward to welcoming all three players back to Dubai in 2014.”

This is the third time that Serena Williams ended a season as the top-ranked player, having done so in 2002 and 2009. This is the second straight year that Errani and Vinci have ended as number one in doubles.
