Stanislas Wawrinka weakens ATP World Tour Finals campaign with Basel opening round loss

Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka hurts his chances of qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals when he was beaten in the first round of the Swiss Indoors Basel on Tuesday. Wawrinka lost to Edouard Roger-Vasselin 4-6, 3-6.

The loss resulted to Wawrinka dropping to eighth in the Race to London standings when he was overtaken by compatriot Roger Federer. Federer won his opening round match to climb to seventh place in the standings. Ninth-placer and Kremlin Cup winner Richard Gasquet begins his campaign on Wednesday versus Michael Llodra.
