Swede Robin Soderling aims for tour comeback

Two-time Roland Garros runner-up Robin Soderling is aiming to make a return on the ATP Tour circuit.

The 29-year old Swede, ranked as high as number four in the world, last played on tour in July 2011 where he went on to win the title at the Swedish Open in Bastad. Since then he has missed matches because he was diagnosed with mononucleosis, a viral illness.

Rumors were swerling the past few weeks that Soderling will be taking part at the Paris Masters tournament later this month but this never materialized.

“I am making progress,” Soderling quoted. “I can play matches now, just not on consecutive days.

“It is unfair that some people, in effort to sell newspapers, point to doping allegations as the reason for my absence, and for other players who similarly miss extended periods of playing time.”

Soderling is the only so far to have defeated eight-time champion Rafael Nadal in Roland Garros.
