Top-ranked Serena Williams to defend Family Circle Cup in 2014

World number one Serena Williams has no plans of having a lighter 2014 season since as early as last month she’s been confirming her participation to lucrative events for the 2014 season where she’s the defending champion. Another tournament she’s committing to appear is the Family Circle Cup 2014 in Charleston where she will be entering the event as the defending champion.

Williams is a three-time champion at this claycourt event – in 2008, 2012 and this year.

“With our past champion and World No. 1 returning to Charleston, our fans will experience the very best that women’s tennis has to offer. Serena is setting the bar high for our strong player field – no doubt she will be the one every other player and fan will be watching,” said Tournament Manager Eleanor Adams.

“The Family Circle Cup is one of my favorite stops on the WTA Tour. Charleston feels like home to me – the fans are so supportive, the restaurants are great and the tournament so historic. I’m looking forward to this spring to defend my title for the second year in a row,” Serena Williams said in a statement.
