Agnieszka Radwanska to defend Sydney International title in January 2014

World number five Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland has confirmed this week that she will be back to defend the Sydney International title in January. The WTA event takes place from January 5 to 11, 2014 at the Sydeny Olympic Park Tennis Center. The Polish tennis star made her announcement first via her official Twitter account.

“I’m really excited to return to Sydney to defend my title,” Radwanska said.

“It’s a great tournament and I really enjoyed the city and playing in front of the crowds in Ken Rosewall Arena,” she added.

Radwanska played her way to the title this year without dropping a set. At a young age of 24, the Polish star has accumulated 13 titles.

“Aga was a crowd favourite in Sydney last year and to have the defending champion and world No.5 confirmed this early is great news for the event and Sydney tennis fans,” said Apia International Sydney Tournament Director Craig Watson.

“We expect another world-class women’s field in 2014 with the majority of the top 10 competing for the prestigious Apia International Sydney title.”

Radwanska secured her place once more in the world’s top five after winning three titles and making deep runs in Grand Slam and Premier-level events.
