Alicia Molik spearheads campaign to find next rural tennis sensation

Former Australian tennis player Alicia Molik has spearheaded a campaign that will find the next rural tennis sensation. Aside from this, Molik launched the Australian Made Summer of Tennis.

Events lined up include the Australian Made Foundation Cup which is the only national tennis tournament for junior players from rural and regional areas Down Under plus the Breakfast with the Stars campaigns in Sydney and Melbourne. These events aim to promote the achievements of women in tennis.

“Rural Australia has produced some of the biggest names in our sport,” Molik said.

“These events give regional and rural kids the opportunity to participate at the highest level, and encourage greater participation by women. I’m proud to be a part of that.”

“We are proud to support the children of regional and rural Australia, and to celebrate the achievements of women in tennis,” Australian Made chief executive Ian Harrison said.

Australian Made together with the Fed Cup Foundation will present the most outstanding male and female player awards of $1,000 each to help them with their development in the sport. The awardees will be chosen based on performance and sportsmanship.

“I am confident that Australian tennis champions of the future will have competed for their state in the Australian Made Foundation Cup,” said Fed Cup Foundation President Judy Dalton.

The Australian Made Foundation Cup takes place from January 6 to 10, 2014 while the Breakfast with the Stars will be in Sydney during the Apia International Sydney tournament in January 7 and Melbourne on January 14 at the Hilton on the Park.
