Andy Murray to make tennis return at Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi

World number four Andy Murray will mark his return to competitive tennis in Abu Dhabi at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship. Though it is dubbed as an exhibition event, the competition is expected to be fierce as lucrative prize money is at stake in this event. The Wimbledon 2013 champion will face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in the opening day.

Murray has been out of competition since the Davis Cup where he defeated Ivan Dodig of Croatia in straight sets. He went on to miss the remainder of the season after deciding to undergo back surgery. He missed the recently concluded ATP World Tour Finals in London last week.

Murray is a former champion at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship. In 2009, he defeated Rafael Nadal in three sets to secure the title.

Other players that have confirmed participation are Rafael Nadal, defending champion Novak Djokovic, world number three David Ferrer and Swiss world number eight Stanislas Wawrinka.
