Chris Kermode to be announced as new ATP CEO – report

Queen’s Club Tournament Director Chris Kermode is set to be announced as the new Chief Executive Officer of the ATP, according to the report published at USA Today. Kermode also serves as managing director of the ATP World Tour Finals.

The three tournament and three player representatives that compose the ATP Board of Directors have yet to settle on a candidate for the post vacated following the passing of former CEO Brad Drewett in May.

Mark Young, a longtime ATP executive, has been a frontrunner for the post but has yet to receive enough support for it. He reportedly applied for the post before when Drewett was chosen.

The board members were reportedly still deadlocked during the season-ending event in London but it appeared that they have finally settled for Kermode.

Should this announcement pushes through, Kermode will become the first CEO of the organization from Europe. Past CEOs include Drewett (from Australia), Adam Helfant (USA), Etienne de Villiers (South Africa) and Mark Miles (USA).

“Kermode’s a good dude,” Mike Bryan was quoted by USA Today. “I like him. He supports doubles. He’s done a great job at this event. He’s been good to us at Queen’s. We need a guy there to make the big decision when it needs to be done and break those [voting] ties.”
