The Fed Cup committee has voted to move the Fed Cup final be adjusted during the 2014 season in order to not compete with other tournaments taking place that week. The Fed Cup final next year will likely take place on November 8 and 9, a week after the WTA Tournament of Champions tournament.
This weekend, the Fed Cup final between Russia and Italy will take place in Cagliari, Sardinia. The Russian team will compose of lower ranked players as top players such as Elena Vesnina, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Maria Kirilenko have opted to participate at the WTA Tournament of Champions in Sofia, Bulgaria which offers ranking points and more lucrative prize money.
“Fed Cup is celebrating its 50th birthday this year, and has enjoyed an illustrious history,” ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti said. “By changing the date we believe we have shown flexibility and concern for the players in helping them to continue to represent their country in this prestigious competition.”
