Federer can win Australian Open or Wimbledon in 2014 – Philippousis

Two-time Grand Slam finalist Mark Philippousis believes that Swiss tennis superstar Roger Federer could make a grand turnaround in 2014 and could possibly win either the Australian Open or Wimbledon in the process.

“I think he has one more slam left in him but it will have to come next year or that will be it,” the Australian said.

Philippoussis and Federer played for the 2003 Wimbledon title which Federer won. It was Federer’s first career Grand Slam title back then.

“I’m throwing it out there,” Philippoussis added. “It’s a big call but I believe he can do it. Pete Sampras’ last match was to beat Andre Agassi in the US Open final when everyone thought he was finished.

“I think Roger can either win in Australia or at Wimbledon next year. The fact that (Andy) Murray’s fitness is a question mark is a factor and that improves Roger’s chances as he lost to him in Australia last year.”

Philippousis, now retired from the professional tour but takes part in seniors events, has had a fruitful career with 11 singles titles and three doubles titles.
