Hong Kong to stage first WTA event in 2014

The WTA revealed that Hong Kong will host its first tour-level tennis event. This development was revealed at the same time that the ATP announced that the rights of the Thailand Open has been bought by organizers at Shenzhen, China. This signifies the growing interest in the sport by the Chinese community.

The Hong Kong Tennis Open will take place at the Victoria Park in September 2014. This event will most likely attract a number of marquee players.

“Hong Kong has never held a WTA tour event before It’s to be a major event on Hong Kong’s calendar. It’s to be a major event on Hong Kong’s calendar. We are exploring all options on which player. We are hoping to have a very strong field with good representations from Chinese, local players and some top international players,” Hong Kong Tennis Association spokesperson Tom Reed said.
