Janko Tipsarevic may not compete at Australian Open 2014

Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia may not be competing at the Australian Open 2014, stating that he might not be 100 percent fit to compete at the first Grand Slam event of the season.

The former world number eight has been dealing with a leg injury which sidelined him from the Davis Cup final against Czech Republic earlier this month. He’s hoping to be fit enough to compete in Melbourne by January 2014.

“Injury does not look great. I try by all means not to go into surgery and I’m not 100 percent sure that I will play Australian Open,” he said. Tipsarevic flew to Germany for the treatment of his injury.

Tipsarevic also said that he’s also not sure whether he could defend the Aircel Chennai Open title, an ATP 250 hardcourt event that takes place in India.

“For now, I’m in the tournament field. But, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to participate,” he said.
