Jelena Dokic thought career was over after wrist surgery in 2012

Former world number four Jelena Dokic shared that she feared that she will never play tennis again after she has undergone wrist surgery last year. Now playing with Australian citizenship, Dokic is attempting to stage another comeback on tour and is training rigorously in Melbourne with Tennis Australia. Dokic has not competed on tour since April 2012.

Dokoic’s wrist surgery included removing cysts between joints, including tendon reconstructions in three fingers.

“With my wrist, I thought I would never hold a racquet again after my surgery,” Dokic said in an interview with Sydney Morning Herald. “The day after I couldn’t move my hand. Even three months later I couldn’t even write, let alone play tennis. From that point of view, I’m very lucky to be on the court and very lucky to be able to train to try and come back.”
