Juan Martin Del Potro’s briefcase containing prized belongings stolen in London

Argentine tennis star Juan Martin Del Potro lost his briefcase containing important documents, including the rosary that was blessed by Pope Francis in Rome earlier this year.

According to reports, Del Potro was checking in at the Gare du Nord train station where he was stopped by fans for autographs. Unfortunately, there was someone who targeted his briefcase instead.

Del Potro’s passport and money were among those stolen from his belongings. However, the Argentine was more saddened with the fact that the rosary, which matters most to him, was among that was stolen.

“My Rosary blessed by Pope Francis, I carried everywhere. That’s what matters most to me,” said del Potro. “I was finishing the check-in and was asked for an autograph. I turned around to sign it and within 20 seconds, it was stolen.”

Del Potro is in London for the ATP World Tour Finals which begins on Monday, November 4. He’s drawn in Group B which includes defending champion Novak Djokovic, Richard Gasquet and six-time titlist Roger Federer.
