He joins defending champion Lleyton Hewitt, a trio of top ten players Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland, Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic and Richard Gasquet of France. Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov has confirmed participation at this event with two more players yet to be determined.

Nishikori was slated to participate in the 2013 edition of this event but had to pull out due to knee injury. He’s looking forward to be back at this event which runs from January 8 to 11.

“I’m really looking forward to playing the AAMI Classic,” the 23-year old said. “I only played one match last year against [Paul-Henri] Mathieu before I had to pull out injured, but I saw the magnificent venue at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club and I can’t wait to get there to play again,” he added.

“Hopefully, I can get my name on the amazing honour roll they have there,” he said, referring to past champions that include Michael Chang, Roger Federer, Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras.
