“It’s a great feeling. There’s an aura around Canadian athletes, Whether it’s in the NBA, college sports, figure skating or [ice] hockey, there’s a bit more of a spotlight, and I think it’s special to be part of that and to receive this award for 2013 is an honour,” Raonic said.

Contributors from Sportsnet’s vast network of television, radio, magazine and online platforms voted for the person who deserved the award and Raonic emerged with the most number of votes.

Raonic set a record for his country as the first Canadian male tennis player to make it to the world’s top ten. He had a productive 2013 season which saw him win two ATP titles and reach the final of the Rogers Cup in Montreal which is an ATP Masters 1000 event.
