Nadal aiming to emulate Laver’s achievement in 2014 – Uncle Toni

World number one Rafael Nadal will be aiming for a historic achievements at the Australian Open 2014 tournament.

Toni Nadal, the coach and uncle of the top-ranked Spaniard, said his nephew will aim for the Australian Open 2014 title. Should Nadal win the title, he’ll be able to emulate the achievement made by Rod Laver, to win each of the four Grand Slam titles twice.

“The challenge in 2014 will be to win Australia, because it would achieve something only Rod Laver did, which is twice winning the four [Grand Slams],” Toni Nadal said in an interview with journalist David Nadal.

The elder Nadal has given good words to his nephew’s rival world number two Novak Djokovic, saying that the Serbian tennis superstar has a lot of qualities that he’d like Rafa to have.

“I do not put Rafael on a pedestal because it’s my family, although I know that he is one of the best ever,” he said.
