Nadal believes Del Potro could lead Argentina to first Davis Cup title

World number one Rafael Nadal is currently in Buenos Aires, Argentina for a series of exhibition matches and he told the media that ARgentina could win its very first Davis Cup title if current world number five Juan Martin Del Potro will take charge and become the team leader. Argentina has reached the Davis Cup final four times but came home empty handed.

Del Potro is currently at odds with the Argentina Tennis Association and already stated that he won’t be taking part with his team’s opening round tie against Italy in February 2014.

“Argentina might win the Davis Cup if (Juan Martín) del Potro takes the decision of leading the team,” Nadal said. “It is true that
Argentina failed to win the tournament with two outstanding players like Nalbandian and del Potro but they hardly ever played together.
However, with Nalbandian retired, del Potro must lead the team and, I am sure that the other players will follow him. If he is not in the
team, the possibilities become smaller.”
