Novak Djokovic doesn’t have plans to be a politician, will still help Serbia

World number two Novak Djokovic said that he will always do his best to help Serbia, his home country, but stressed that he doesn’t have plans to become a politician in the near future.

“I want to help my country in many ways but not as a politician. Novak Djokovic Foundation helps Serbia a lot by taking care of children with special needs, in order to provide them with proper education. We open kindergartens, playgrounds, we help institutions, and this means a lot to my country,” the tennis superstar said in an interview with Sport 360.

Despite having relinquished the top ranking by the end of the season, Djokovic said that it’s been a successful 2013 for him.

“I believe that the year was successful for me,” he said. “I consistently played well and it makes me really happy. The truth is I had three heavy defeats in Grand Slam tournaments, so I will learn from these experiences and try to correct errors in 2014. The hardest was the loss to Rafael Nadal in the semi-final of Roland Garros. I wanted so much to defeat him, but that did not happen. However, Nadal showed how strong he is. I am really impressed with how he controlled the situation and returned to victories.”
