Novak Djokovic to further increase winning streak in 2014

Novak Djokovic ended the 2013 season with a 24-match winning streak and the Serbian tennis star has plans of increasing the streak this coming 2014 season.

Djokovic won his two matches at the Davis Cup competition last weekend to increase his consecutive win streak to 24. Since his loss at the US Open final in September, Djokovic went on a rampage – successfully defending his titles in Beijing and Shanghai and going on to win the Paris Masters and defending the year-end ATP World Tour Finals in London earlier this month.

“It’s an incredible number considering the fact that I lost three big matches in three months — Roland Garros [semi-finals], Wimbledon [final] and the US Open [final],” the world number two said on Sunday.

“But I managed to bounce back and managed to play my best tennis in the last two and a half months,” he added. “I’m full of confidence on the court and hopefully I can carry that into the next season.”

Djokovic said that his morale at this point is high and he’s expecting to carry this by 2014.

“I’m full of confidence on the court and hopefully I can carry that into the next season. I’ll start with the Australian Open which is the Grand Slam at which I’ve scored the most successes, and I’m looking forward to going there.

“My goal in general is to play my best tennis and to get in shape for the Grand Slams. These tournaments have the most weight in our sport, and I want to prove my worth at them.

“Of course at the other tournaments, I play each match to win. But I feel I have let escape several Grand Slam titles which I could definitely have won.”
