Rafael Nadal deserves year-end number one ranking, Djokovic says

Second-ranked Novak Djokovic admitted that his rival Rafael Nadal deserves the year-end number one ranking after the Spaniard romped away with 10 titles this 2013 season including two Grand Slam titles and five ATP Masters 1000 titles.

Nadal’s major blimps this season include a first round loss at the Wimbledon and missing the Australian Open.

“Year-end No. 1 is deservedly in Nadal’s hands because he has two grand slam wins, and has had the best season of all the players,” Djokovic said.

Djokovic won the Australian Open and reached the final of the US Open and Wimbledon and made a semifinal run at the French Open. He secured three Masters 1000 titles.

“For me, I tried to put aside the calculations and the rankings after the US Open and just tried to focus on one tournament at a time. That kind of attitude has helped me to get to where I am at this moment,” he said.
